The live webcast of the Venus Transit on 8th June 2004 attracted huge attention. Over 46 000 persons visited the website, in order to follow how Venus wandered as a black spot across the sun dial.
ETH World and the Network for Educational Technology, NET, webcast this rare event from the solar observatory of ETH Zurich and from the Istituto Ricerche Solari Locarno. The huge interest was not totally without problems: at times the website was completely overloaded.
ETH World will document the experiences of this webcast, in order to make them available to other ETH units that would like to use videostreaming technology to make an event available to a larger off-site audience.
08.06.2004
