Virtual Excursion wants to supplement the existing botany course for natural scientists with the possibilities of new media teaching.
While traditional field excursions are irreplacable for a direct confrontation with plants and vegetation, Virtual Excursion can overcome the limitations of this kind of teaching. The time dimension is arbitrary and you can move freely in space. This allows students to travel for example from south of the alps to the northern boundaries of Switzerland with few mouse clicks. To visualize content, this multimedia learning module utilizes techniques like virtual reality panoramic views, 3D object movies or videoblueboxing.
On top of this Virtual Excursion contributes to a modern university learning environment. Motivated by precise questions given in a guiding script, students learn at their own pace and aquire the learning content selfguided.
