ETH World 2000-2005
The ETH World program came to an end in 2005. This website is no longer updated and contains archival information about the activities.
ETH World and and the ICT Services (Informatikdienste) have launched "sipETH", a joint project to evaluate new technologies for audio, video and text communication over the Internet.
A main goal of ETH World is to introduce new technologies for communication and cooperation independent of time and place. For example, both ETH campuses (Zentrum and Höngerberg) are connected with a telecommunication network: Every employee and studend of ETH can access this network from almost any place on the campus using wireless LAN.
With the sipETH project we want to extend the campus concept: The campus is defined as all the places where ETH students and staff are at a given moment. So in the evening the campus moves to the private homes or dormitories. During the semester breaks the campus can move to the beach. And during a sabbatical the campus extends to incorporate the hosting university of a professor.
