The production of e-learning content is demanding and expensive. The project "dynamic Learning Content Management System" (dLCMS) develops a platform to enhance the reusability of content in the form of so-called Learning Objects. These are small modular building blocks, which can easily be assembled to lessons. Today, Learning Objects come in a variety of formats and styles, making it difficult to aggregate them into coherent lessons. The proposed solution is to separate content and presentation using structured content. The dLCMS platform offers a centralized repository for Learning Objects, making them available for collaborative use. It provides flexible search and retrieval functions, XML-based content structuring, and an easy-to-use tool for assembling Learning Objects into lessons. An online editor enables users without XML skills to create learning content, allowing them to concentrate on content rather than programming. The built-in export packaging facility makes it easy to export lessons created in the dLCMS into others systems, such as static web servers or traditional learning management systems. The dLCMS software is an extension of the Zope-based Silva application, the standard Web Content Management System at ETH Zurich.h as word processing software or Web browsers. ShaRef is based on XML technologies for providing an open platform with powerful importing and exporting features.
